How the Script Follows the Story — Illustration by Illustration

Since this book has been adored by young horse lovers since the thirties (and is still in print), the first criteria that Cynthia had to meet was to capture the nature of the affection everyone has for them who grew up with these wonderful stories. She decided to try and make sure every illustration in the book could be found in order in the movie to make a true match for the book. This required tremendous creativity. Since the book has very little copy she faced the task of elaboration with gravity and grace so that every illustration is captured in order, without being forced. This sensitivity to the original story helped shape the overall script and gave the C. W. Anderson Estate a strong level of comfort with a small studio’s work and vision. Here are a few examples:
