Because this book has been adored by young horse lovers since the 1930s (and is still in print), the first criterion that Cynthia Rogers Erkel had to meet was to capture the nature of the affection everyone has for them who grew up with these wonderful stories. She made sure every illustration in the book could be found in order in the storyline of the movie. This required tremendous creativity.
